As Salaamu Alaykum Sister Janice,
You and your husband are absolutely welcome to attend any of our masjids!
As-salamu Alaykum ,
I live in Arlington Texas and am interested in organizing a study group here rooted in the teachings of the Imam. I am Muslim and an Independent filmmaker who has been struggling to get myself in a position to truly serve the community.

Alaykum As Salaam!
Dear Brother Falaq,
That is a great news! If you could start and establish a group of interested people (no matter how small), you will be making a contribution towards community development and thus, truly serving the community. I would recommend that you access the free lecture materials found at http://www.iwdmstudylibrary.com and http://www.newafricaradio.com. I recommend that you use the following format:
1. Read, listen, or watch some lectures to identify the topics you want to cover.
2. Bring your group together and provide them with the materials or links to the lectures to review and study.
3. Come back together to discuss and share. Using the halaqa format where you go around the circle giving each person the option of commenting or passing, with the understanding that no one is right or wrong, is a very popular format that seems to get everyone involved and feeling comfortable without having one person dominate all of the talk time.
Of course, you are best suited to know how you want to conduct your study group and what your people would best respond to. I wish you the best of success and my only words are to just do it. Just start it with the determination to keep going even if only 1 other person shows up.
If there are any specific questions you have that I can help with, please feel free to ask. May Allah bless you for your intentions and may HE bless you more for the work you will do!
